Monkey bidness

Last of the little paintings for Chimp Haven. I did 3 in total. The smaller ones are 5x5 and the larger one is 6x6 (I think). They are acrylic on masonite and textured gesso board. The color came out pretty bad on my iphone camera, but leopard print wallpaper so it doesn't matter!

Another chimp painting

Another small and quick painting for Chimp Haven. The board was kind of textured. I don't much like that but the painting is cute for such a quick effort.

I suck at graphic design

It's a truth, not universally known that an illustrator does not a graphic designer make.
But, I tried for Adams burger birthday lunch. I just want to eat cheeseburguesas now!

Chimp Haven

I had the privilege to do some charity artwork for Chimp Haven. It's a wonderful non-prof organization dedicated to providing sanctuary to chimpanzees. These intelligent greater apes have been used in medical testing, show business and rescued from being pets in unfitting homes now call Chimp Haven their new residence. The place is wonderful and does amazing work with both caring for the chimps medically and emotionally... for the rest of their lives. There was even a surprise baby named Tracy! How cool is that? These are animals deserving of our respect and Chimp Haven is a fantastic place to support.

Puddle Pug

So this year I participated in Reddit Secret Santa on Reddit gifts. They match you with someone randomly, locally or internationally. So on November 25th I was matched up with someone from Ontario Canada. She didn't have much information to really go on besides the fact that she likes pugs, frogs, knitting and hates meat.

So being the validation seeking person that I am, I decided to paint something. I hope that I am good enough to not make this a weird... "uh, thank you... I'll hang it somewhere nice." and later discover they only hang the painting in the bathroom when you come to visit. Awkward.

So yeah, this poor (or lucky depending on your perspective) girl gets a painting of a very concerned pug in a frog suit, on a pond. A book of knitting patterns of cute things and a fancy new Moleskine sketchbook, which I personalized.

I hope this is a good gift. I love hand made things and I would probably freak out if I got an awesome painting from someone, but then again I am an artist so I appreciate that kinda thing.

So anyway.

I should practice more.

My bestest friend in the whole world (that has a vajayjay) has been on a master painting kick. She wanted to be even more of an awesome painter which is nuts because she's already SO good. Anyway, she directed me to Dice Tsutsumi who is a painting ninja for Pixar as well as Blue Sky Studios. Im basically copying him so I to one day can hope to be a painting ninja too. I mostly draw here at Imagineering and rarely get an opportunity to do any sort of finished work. As one can imagine if you don't use it you lose it with painting too. So its time to go back to basics. The apples I painted are the tutorials found at Dice Tsutsumi's website... Try one for yourself!

Process!

It's been AGES. I recently scored CS5 from work and I really am loving the new brush features. It's been a long time since I've done a portrait of any kind... this one happens to be me. I worked from a photo (before you think I'm more awesome than I actually am) just to try out how the program works. I miss painting things...

BAM! Action shot. It's missing a few frames... SOME websites don't like more than 10 images.
I am much to lazy to make one in photoshop.
